Ian Davies has done it again and by “it” we mean calmly run Aevus Golf Club like a well oiled machine while the rest of us are still trying to remember which pocket the tees go in. After being crowned General Manager of the Year for our local area (all courses within a 165 meter radius), Ian accepted the honour with the same steady confidence he uses to handle everything from a surprise society booking to the ancient mystery of who keeps putting wet towels in the locker room hamper.
Members say the course has never looked better, the clubhouse has never felt warmer, and somehow the coffee now tastes like it was made on purpose. Rumour has it Ian’s secret is a radical management technique known as “answering emails” plus an elite ability to smile kindly while someone explains, for the third time, that they definitely booked the 10:12 slot.
The award judges reportedly considered several factors: operational excellence, leadership, and the fact that Ian can resolve a minor crisis using only eye contact and a laminated clipboard. Since the win, the club has introduced new standards in his honour including faster check ins, friendlier welcomes, and a strict policy that no one may say “quick question” unless they truly mean it.
When asked what the award means to him, Ian said it’s “a team effort” which is classic Ian because even when he’s clearly the reason everything works, he still hands the credit to everyone else like he’s awarding prizes at the Christmas raffle. Congratulations to Ian Davies, our newly decorated local legend and the only man who can make golf admin look like a sport in its own right.
